The Spirit is our guiding light. He lives in us, He connects us and He equips us to move forward in our Christian journey. That equipping is a gift and it comes in many forms. But it is these gifts from the Spirit that can sometimes be the most difficult to unwrap.
What are they? Who are they given to? Why are they given?
On April 29th, David J. Jones will be helping us understand how the Spirit works, as well as discussing spiritual and authority gifts. During this conference, the participants will also be invited to participate in a special workshop. Join us as we seek to discover more of the work of the Spirit in our lives and look forward to seeing what He will do!
Session 1: Introduction
Here we will learn about different historical and denominational perspectives on the topic of gifts and explore their origins.
Session 2: Spiritual Gifts (1 Cor.12:1-11)
A gift (or “charisma”) is an endowment (or manifestation) of the Holy Spirit. There are many and varied gifts as diverse as administration (1 Cor.12:28), contributing to the needs of others (Rom. 12:8) and spiritual gifts. This session will cover:
Messages of Wisdom (Prov.8:12-36) (Acts 11:28) (Acts 21:10-14)
Messages of Knowledge (John 4:16-18) (Acts 53b)
Faith (Heb.11) (Acts 3:1-10)
Healing (Acts 3:1-10) (Luke 17:11-19)
Miraculous Powers (John 2:1-11) (Acts 28:3-6)
Prophecy (Acts 2:14-41) (Acts 6:8-10)
Distinguishing between Spirits (Acts 5:3a) (Acts 12:5-11)
Tongues (1 Cor.14:1-25)
Interpretation of Tongues (1 Cor.14:1-25)
Dreams and Visions (Acts 9:10-11) (Acts 10:9-35)
Session 3: Authority Gifts (Eph.4:7-16)
The risen and ascended Christ, out of His victory, gives presents (doma) to the Church for the purposes of equipping of the Church. Here we will explore those of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.
Session 4: Workshop (1 Cor.14:1-25)
This will be a two-part workshop with participants broken off into small groups to discuss and work through some of the principles taught in the previous sessions.
Session 5: The Principle of Peace
Here we will learn how peace is established in the Kingdom (and through us). As God gives gifts for the purpose of overcoming and as victories are won, we can be encouraged to step out.
